![]() They offer a real crib with nice mattress/sheets, and were thoughtful enough to include a small travel-sized kit of infant/toddler toiletries (wipes, baby shampoo, etc.) as well as a diaper pail for the bathroom. for traveling with a toddler, if you're ignoring covid safety, it's admittedly great. don't see how that would be an issue regardless given how underutilized they are currently the lower pool now says clearly that it's adult only/18+. Overall, this property among the various I've stayed at recently in the SoCal area came the closest to offering a pre-covid experience, which was both good (dining options including room service, amenities, housekeeping, etc., were all excellent, as was the quality of the room itself, which definitely fits a Park Hyatt standard from my experience pre-covid), and also incredibly bad (the hotel pays the absolute minimum lip service to covid safety protocols, and basically ignores the protocols/regulations it advertises itself on signs throughout the property). Some observations/data points from a recent stay. * I wish this hotel had suites with 2 bedsĪll in all, we had a great time, and will return. We kept ours on in the indoor common area as a courtesy to little kids. * With the number of kids below vaccine eligibility age staying, I didn't love that most adults we saw indoors were not wearing masks. * Discoverist 2pm checkout was offered proactively and we used it. Given that we're traveling as a family, this was nice, particularly because we had that entire pool area to ourselves two evenings in a row, and I happen to have a kid that doesn't really like the noise and chaos of the main pool. * The lower pool is no longer adult only, and is now "suggested" as 12+. * The bar and back patio are a great place to sit for a snack, a drink, or the overpriced coffee you just bought from the market I generally found that everything looked nicer than it tasted, and probably won't opt to eat on-property again next time since we usually have a car. * Food is generally pretty good, but extremely overpriced given what else is in the Carlsbad area. * The rooms here are the same size as they were before, which is to say fairly large, but the new layout is really efficient with space. The menu at Ponto Lago isn't as great, and gets boring after the 2nd morning. The only negative versus the before times was breakfast - the old menu, and especially the buffet, were my favorite hotel breakfast. * Staff were all super friendly - front desk and valet were well-staffed even with some weddings going on. * Not specific to the hotel, but using points here saves you a steep resort fee. Some observations, in no particular order. I don't think the standard category rooms actually exist here anyway. I'm a discoverist via cc, zero stays this year or last.Īt some point the room was upgraded to a pool view on the top floor. That's a solid value for points and made it a no-brainer. I booked a standard two king room on points (25k x 4 = 100k) when cash rates were about $600 a night. Huntington Beach hyatt is also a resort and on a holiday weekend was stingy about the late checkout - given the circumstances, it's understandable and I didn't push, but just a data point. Rooms are given different "view" categories which IMO are BS. Agree with others who noted that this property is VERY shady about its award/points availability. They instead offered us a 1pm checkout with a pool key to continue using the pool till 4pm.Īll in all it was a fun and quick getaway - some pros and some cons. ![]() * The biggest bummer of our stay though was being told that as globalists we weren't guaranteed a 4pm checkout because this benefit doesn't apply to resorts? I had never heard this before and have never at any other Hyatt had an issue getting a 4pm checkout. ![]() So we felt the need to roll all the windows down and get some air moving before loading our young kids in the car that the valet had just driven unmasked with all windows up. * All staff was wearing masks (including lifeguards) EXCEPT for valet. * Only three bath towels so had to call again for an additional towel (seems weird to only have 3 towels in a suite?) * The sheets on the pull out bed were stained which was yuck, had to have housekeeping come up with a fresh set of sheets Our globalist benefit covered our meal + tip Two waterslides kept our kiddos entertained for hours * Everyone we interacted with was very, very friendly Cash rates for standard room was $850, so we sprung for the poolside suite at 20k + $450 (plus the $45 for parking because I forgot that globalist only covers parking if it's a full points stay not a points + cash booking - ugh). Would have preferred just a standard room for 25k points per night but they are impossible to find. My fam of 4 just stayed a night in a poolside suite.
